Opening Day Fishing Season
Imaginative pen-and-ink drawing of a fisherman wearing waders in a creek at the juncture of a cascading stream. He is surrounded by trees and forest berms. Holding a fishing rod with taut line in one hand, he is trying to net a trout leaping out of the water with the other. |

This drawing originally appeared in the Wisconsin State Journal on April 28, 1962 with Sid's poem: "Away From the Street of Life's Demands, and Circumstances Filled With Doubt, A Man Can Relax With A Hook and Line, and Share His Soul With a Trout." Sid Boyum annually created an "Opening Day" drawing to promote the first day of the general fishing season, published from 1963 to 1989 in theCapital Times and the Wisconsin State Journal. In exchange, Sid would receive copies of the print to distribute on his own. |
