Fargo Children at Play
An album page decorated with a hand-painted stem of wild geranium flowers features four photographs of Stuart Fargo, age two years, and his sister Dorothy, age five years. At top left, they are flanked by two barefoot children identified as the "Buchanan boys." Stuart and Dorothy are both holding the handles of a toy wheelbarrow. At top right, Stuart is sitting on the seat of a tricycle as Dorothy is holding the handle. At lower left, Dorothy and Stuart are seen "Fishing in Uncle Robert's Fountain." Stuart is sitting in the tricycle. Dorothy is standing beside him and there is an unidentified boy on the right. The three children have fishing poles and the lines are in the pool at the base of a large tiered fountain. "Uncle Robert" Fargo lived in the 1868 house at 512 Mulberry Street, next door to the children's house at 422 Mulberry. Robert was uncle to Frank B. Fargo, the father of Stuart and Dorothy. In the photograph at lower right, two girls are sitting on a bentwood bench. Each is wearing a hat and the girl on the right is holding a cat. Stuart, seated in the tricycle, is stretching out his arm to pet the cat. He is wearing a crocheted bonnet. |
