A New Map of the River Mississipi: From the Sea to Bayagoulas | Map or Atlas | Wisconsin Historical Society
Map covering southern Louisiana from Lake Ponchetrain to the Golf of Mexico and from Woods Bay in the west to the islands just east of Bay St. Louis. It shows the Mississippi delta in great topographical detail, including forests, marshes, meadows, islands, lakes and rivers. Depth in the bays and along the coast is shown through soundings. The map also shows cities, towns, and forts, including the ruins of Fort la Boulaye, the first European settlement in the area. Numerous notes explain the land or points of interest, such as one reading "forest of holms fit for ship building." Several place names appear in both Spanish and English. Flowers and the bust of a man frame the title cartouche.
