Franklin Hoyt
Sixth plate ambrotype of Franklin Hoyt (1846-?). Waist-up portrait facing front, with left hand on his lapel. He is wearing a suit, small bow tie, and cap with upturned brim. Hand-coloring on cheeks. The portrait was taken in Port Washington, Wisconsin when he was 16. Born in New Orleans, Hoyt enlisted in Co. I, First Wisconsin, Heavy Artillery, at Port Washington in October 1864, giving his age as 19. He achieved the rank of Drummer, and his drum and fife are in the Wisconsin Historical Museum collections. |
