A hand-colored lithograph of three fish specimens collected near Hakodate, Japan by members of the Perry expedition. At top, a young fish identified only as Salmo ? and is most likely Oncorhynchus masou masou. No. 2 was named by James Carson Brevoort Osmerus japonicus; the current accepted name is Hypomesus japonicus. No. 3, bottom is labeled Salmo [Fario] leucomaenis; the current accepted name is Salvelinus leucomaenis. |
