ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is perhaps the most significant map of the Mississippi Valley and Great Lakes of the 18th century. It greatly improved the cartographic knowledge of these areas, and was the first to present a roughly accurate account of the river's length, and relatively accurate placement of the Mississippi's tributaries (including the Wisconsin River as "Ousconsing River"). It is also the first map to name Texas, though only in a small notation ("mission de los Teijas") which appears below a city labeled as Cenis. The second edition was the first map to label New Orleans.
