Map or Atlas
Partie Occidentale de la Nouvelle France ou Canada

Landmark map of the Great Lakes region and one of the most advanced depictions of the lakes and surrounding areas for its time. It is the first map to introduce several fictional islands in Lake Superior that would remain on maps for nearly one hundred years. The map shows a few cities, forts, settlements, missions, and mines, but focuses more on Native American tribes and villages, mountains, rivers, and lakes. An ornate floral scroll pattern frames the title cartouche. |
