She is dressed in a striped smock folded up and tied in the back, her straw bonnet is hanging down her back, and a kerchief is tied around her neck, and she is wearing a choker. Her tangled hair hangs loose. Hand-colored stripes on clothing. |

Nonpareil stamped mat. No case or preserver. Left side of mat stamped "J. Dean's Patent Dec. 24, 1861" The right side of mat stamped "Dean & Emerson, Worcester. Mass. No. 91". Dean & Emerson's firm specialized in brass mats for daguerreotypes. Samuel P. Emerson is recorded as a manufacturer and engraver of daguerreian materials. |
