Blacktip Grouper
A hand-colored lithograph, prepared from drawings by Bayard Taylor, depicts two highly colored fish, identified as Serranus tsirimenara, top, and Serranus marginalis. Both are now considered variants of the blacktip grouper, Epinephelus fasciatus, family Serranidae. These specimens were collected at Port Lloyd, Bonin (Ogasawara) Islands. Bayard Taylor (1825-1878) was an American author, poet, artist and diplomat who joined the Perry Expedition in China. |
