Sid based this sculpture on reproductions of gargoyles used for the historical marker of Dawn Manor in the Wisconsin Dells. The original gargoyles were salvaged from the Board of Trade Building in Chicago that was demolished in 1929, and transported to the manor that same year by the estate owner, W.J. Newman.
