Map or Atlas
Regni Mexicani seu Novæ Hispaniæ, Ludovicianæ, N. Angliæ, Carolinæ, Virginiæ, Pensylvaniæ, Necnon Insvlarvm Archipelagi Mexicani in America Septentrionali
Map of North America from the Great Lakes to the northern portion of South America. It shows cities, Native American land, mountains, swamps, lakes, rivers, and the boundaries between French, Spanish, and English claims. The tracks of the Spanish Galleons and routes to Havana appear in the Golf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean. Two large illustrations adorn the oceans. In the lower left corner numerous ships fire upon each other, along with two row boats filled with soldiers. A large mountainous scene showing trade between Native Americans and Europeans covers the Atlantic ocean. The title cartouche is engraved on an illustration of a buffalo hide. A nude woman works the hide, while a man wearing a feathered headdress, draped cloth, and carrying a bow, sits in front of her. Dried fish, hides, timber, grain, and gold surround the rest of the cartouche. |
