Map or Atlas
The English Empire in America, Newfound-land, Canada, Hudsons Bay, &c.
This small and hand-painted map focuses on the English claims in North America along the east coast from Cuba up to the southern tip of Greenland. It shows rivers, lakes, cities, forts, islands, and the territory of the five nations of the Iroquois. An elegant compass rose sits in the middle of the Ocean, with rhumb lines extending from it. Typical of Moll, he labels the Atlantic Ocean as "Sea of the English Empire." |
