Map or Atlas
Al Molto Magco. Sigor. Marco del Sole Sigor. mio Ossermo
Map showing the place names, rivers, and mountains of Europe, north-western Africa, the northern half of South America, and North America. Rhumb lines cross the Atlantic Ocean from seven points, including an ornate compass rose. Two features make this map particularly significant. First, this is the earliest appearance of the word 'Canada' on a printed map. Second, this map also features an early attempt to include the Mississippi River, though it flows more in the direction of the Rio Grande and remains unlabeled. |
