Display for Madison Toy Loan
Display for the Madison Toy Loan program, set up in the corner of an industrial building. Signs for the display read: "Madison Toy Loan takes toys, like these. Rebuilds and refurnishes them, like these. Then loans them out to all children between the ages of two and sixteen . . ." A sign on the left reads: "Toys may be obtained at the following centers: Brayton School, W. Washington & Webster, Draper School, Park & W. Johnson St., voting booth, 2nd St. just off of Winnebago." There are two large paintings, and the one on the left has Disney characters. The toys on display on the floor and on shelves are in various states of repair. Sid worked on the painting in the back right (Image ID: 122762). The 1940 census lists Sid Boyum as an artist/government worker for the Toy Loan Program, which was started by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the spring of 1940. |
