Right side view of a Fokker F-VII Trimotor in flight. The wing identifier read: "1985." This airplane, called the "Southern Cross," was flown in the spring of 1928 from the United States to Australia in the first trans-Pacific flight. The journey covered 7,400 miles with 83 hours and 35 minutes spent in the air. The crew included Captain Charles Kingsford Smith, Flight Lieut. Charles Ulm, navigator Harry Lyon, and radio operator James Warner. |
