"Alice in Dairyland" Costume Sketch
Sketch of an "Alice in Dairyland" costume for the 10-foot mechanical mannequin of Alice to be displayed at the Wisconsin Centennial Exposition. A contest was held for young people to design Alice's costume. It was won by Betty Lou Jahn, National Avenue, Milwaukee. The black waistband and lacing were changed to green. Miss Jahn's rationale for the dress colors: the yellow symbolized butter and cheese, the white suggested cream and milk, and the green represented the "lush pastures of Wisconsin — America's Dairyland." |
