George Ransom Gardner
Sixteenth plate ambrotype of George Ransom Gardner. Half figure facing front and slightly right, wearing coat, tie, and stand collar. Hand-coloring on cheeks. Gardner served in the 48th regiment NY State Volunteers during the Civil War, where he lost his right arm. He taught school in Missouri. He studied law and was licensed to practice in New York, and became a prominent Wisconsin Rapids attorney. He died during the progress of a famous murder trial while assistant to the DA. |
