Half plate ferrotype/tintype of a three-quarter length portrait of John W. Fonda, Company C, 6th Regiment, Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. Seated half figure facing front, left hand on left leg, right hand on cartridge box on belt. Hand-coloring on cheeks, gold details on buttons, belt buckle and medallion on sash. He is wearing the original state-issue gray uniform of the regiment. Fonda was from Prairie du Chien, and enlisted April 20, 1861. |
