ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
After leaving the pier in Amsterdam (today called Cedar Grove) on November 29th, 1868, the schooner Northerner started leaking. The captain brought the ship to Port Washington, where he discharged the ship's deck load to lighten it, and hired the propeller Cuyahoga to tow the leaking Northerner to Milwaukee. Just off of Port Ulao, however, the Northerner capsized and had to be abandoned, along with its load of timber still in the hold. The Cuyahogarescued the crew, resulting in no loss of life. For more information on the Northerner visit the Wisconsin Shipwrecks website.
