Map or Atlas
Black Hawk's Route Through Wisconsin
This map is comprised of six plates that depict the rout the Sauks and Meskwakis, led by Black Hawk, took through Wisconsin during the Black Hawk War of 1832. The first five plates are county maps, which show the route the Black Hawks took, and some basic features such as nearby cities, and major lakes and rivers. Each map is grid based. The sixth plate shows all of the counties the Black Hawks traveled through, a few major cities, the route they traveled, the Mississippi River, and Lake Michigan. Two battle sites are also shown: the Battle of Wisconsin Heights (on the border of Sauk and Dane counties), and the Battle of Bad Axe (near the south western corner of Vernon county on the Mississippi River). |
