Map or Atlas
Stockbridge Reservation
This map shows landownership circa 1848 in the old Stockbridge Indian reservation on Lake Winnebago in Calumet County. It is oriented with north to the left. The lots are each labeled with a name and owner. The top of the map also contains an index, showing three types of lots. The first are "lots ceded by the Indian party to the United States - Treaty Nov. 24, 1848, to which no other claims seem to exist," the second "Lots admitted into the list of lots sold 1848 to the Government, to which settlers and others claim to have acquired a title," and the third "Lots recommended to be patented 1848." There are numerous other handwritten notes surrounding the margins of the map. |
