Wisconsin Circuit Court
Wisconsin Supreme Court in session at the second hearing of the trial of Emery, Lord and Houston for murder. The case also had two Circuit Court hearings. Identifications: On the bench, Judge Charles V. Bardeen, later (1898-1903) Chief Justice; foreground, left to right: Unknown man; William H. Mylrae, later (1895-99) Attorney General; B.A. Goggins, District Attorney (who wears an artificial left leg, due to a boyhood logging accident); George R. Gardner, assistant to the District Attorney (who died during this trial); on the right side of the table: George Williams, defense attorney; Neal Brown, defense attorney, later a State Senator from Wausau and a prominent orator; Lord, one of the defendants, later hung for the murder. A Bailiff stands by each of the doors. The names of the jury would be obtainable from the record. The man directly behind the upright rod, to the right of the bench, may be one of the other defendants. These identifications have been provided by T.W. Brazeau of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., a partner of B.A, Goggins. |
