Dane County Fair Poster

Advertisement featuring a painting by artist Henry Mosler, dated 1915, titled "The Stars and Stripes Forever." In the painting a young man dressed in cut-off pants, button-up shirt, and neckerchief, is scaling a flag pole to nail a colonial American flag to it. Below is a group of four musicians dressed in colonial-era uniforms playing drums and fife. A crowd is gathered in the background looking out at three caravel ships heading to shore, possibly meant to represent Christopher Columbus' fleet the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. Two smaller boats are closer to shore. The bottom of the advertisement reads: "Largest County Fair in Wisconsin August 28, 29, 30, 31, 1917 M.M. Parkinson, Sec'y. Madison Wis." |
