Fire on Wabash Avenue
Streams of water from fire hoses are trained into the upper windows of a storefront which is encased in thick ice. A written description of this photograph identifies the building as "Alfred Peats & Company wall paper store on the East side of Wabash Avenue between Madison & Monroe Sts. attacked by fire at six-fifteen in the evening on January 28, 1918." The building on the right was the Chicago office of the Yawman & Erbe Manufacturing Company; the home office was in Rochester, New York. |
