Death Notice of Arthur McArthur, Sr.

Death notice and image of Arthur McArthur, Sr. (the last name was sometimes spelled MacArthur). The death notice was printed in the Milwaukee Sunday Sentinel on March, 6th 1898, and reads: "Born in Glasgow, Scotland, where he was educated; came to Milwaukee in 1848; elected city attorney for Milwaukee in '52; elected lieutenant-governor on the Democratic ticket in 1855; was acting governor four days after Barstow's resignation; he was elected circuit judge of the Milwaukee circuit in 1863, for the second time; appointed associate justice of the Supreme court for the District of Columbia by Gen. Grant, from which he retired in 1888, at the age of 73 years. He died in Washington in 1869." |
