Truax Field Pilots Practice Water Survival in Lake Mendota
Truax Field pilots practicing water survival techniques in Lake Mendota near Warner Beach. The pilots, members of the 325 Fighter Interceptor Squadron, were hooked to a chair-like harness, dropped into the water and pulled backwards through the water by a speedboat to simulate the drag of an open parachute. Pilots were picked up by helicopters alerted by orange flares. The training is part of an overall Air Force program to improve survival of pilots when they parachute into open water. |
