Birthday Tablescape, Scenes IV, V, and VI
Six scenes of miniature landscapes and interiors comprise a tablescape honoring six decades in the life of Emma Seipp Schmidt on the occasion of her sixtieth birthday. A poem glued to the reverse of the photograph explains the scenes. In this photograph are, from left to right, scenes IV, V, and VI. At left (the 1900's), the Schmidt family enjoys an evening at their home at 3328 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago. In the center (the 1910's), the steamer Loreley is depicted carrying family and guests across Geneva Lake to Black Point Estate. The family's sailboat, Black Point, is also seen. At far right (the 1920's), the Schmidt family enjoys a summer day at the estate. Real foliage and flowers are mingled with artificial trees of loofah and other materials to form the landscape, which is completed with miniature furniture, lamps, dolls and toy animals. In the background is a large stained glass window, live plants and an aquarium on a stand. |
