Sumner's Drug Store
View across street towards the Edwin Sumner and Son Drugstore at 15 S. Pinckney Street. Automobiles are parked at an angle on both sides of the street, and people are standing on the sidewalk in front of the drugstore. There was an earlier store on Carroll Street and a later store, owned by his son L.D. Sumner, on State Street. Edwin Sumner opened his drugstore in 1859, and until a celebration of sixty years in business in 1919, never closed a single day. Next to Sumner's is the Wolff, Kubly, Hirsig shop, which also had multiple locations over time on the square. |
