Madison City Hall was built in 1857 and designed by Donnell and Kutzbock. The first floor was occupied by the Madison Free Library, the S.U. Pinney's Supply Hose Company, and Governors Guard Military Company. The second floor contained the rooms of the Municipal Court, City Clerk, Council Chamber, City Surveyor and City Treasurer. The third floor was a lecture room. The clock tower, which was originally placed in the center of the roof, was later moved to the Southeast corner of the building and later removed entirely. |
