Photographer's Silhouette on Unidentified Street
Perspective view of an unidentified street paved with gravel, with the photographer's silhouette. There is a house on a hill on the right, and more houses on the lower part of the hill on the left. A man is standing near the curb on the right halfway up the hill, and at the top of the hill in the distance is a man driving what may be grading equipment for road building. An inscription on the back of the photograph notes that Joseph Schubert may be the photographer. Joseph Schubert was a cabinet maker turned photographer in the mid-1800s. Joseph C. Schubert took over his father's photography business and in 1906 was elected mayor of Madison. |
