Typed text on back of photograph: "River Falls Rifle company, River Falls, Wis. Organized 1859, later fought with 12th Wisconsin Volunteer Regiment in Civil War." Handwritten on back, "Company A, 12th Wisc. Vols. (with Sherman at Vicksburg)" Three soldiers are named, Edwin Lovings, Homer Lovings and Jerry Flint. The portrait was created by trimming each photograph from the waist up, arranging them, then rephotographing them as a group. |
