From Jim Allen: "1976 Scout diesel introduction press pack image. In 1976, International introduced a diesel option into the Scout line. It was not quite an industry first but it was the first one for the U.S. SUV and light truck market in the '70s. The engine was a 198 cubic inch Chrysler-Nissan CN-33 diesel six cylinder that made 81 horsepower in naturally aspirated form. International would dub it the 6-33 and it would be offered all the way to the end of the Scout in 1980. The 'IH' emblem on the top of the valve cover was not standard. 'Chrysler-Nissan' or 'Nissan' was cast into the cover." |
