TWA's Sleeping Passengers

TWA executives napping during a round-the-world flight in a Constellation 803 organized to survey travel conditions in the Far East. The Lockheed Constellation series was first introduced in 1939 and by the early 1950's the Super Constellation represented the pinnacle of commercial airline travel and beauty. However, the propeller-driven Constellations were rapidly replaced by jet engine planes. The album documenting this trip was compiled by TWA publicist Gordon Gilmore, whose papers are available at the Wisconsin Historical Society Archives. |
