Elroy Roundhouse
Elevated view of the roundhouse for the Chicago North Western Railway, one of two Elroy roundhouses during the railroad boom. This roundhouse has 20 stalls for train cars, and there are two cars in the stalls. Outside the roundhouse are several single cars, as well as a train. In the foreground is a single passenger car and several pieces of railroad equipment. In the far background are tree-lined hills. The railway boom slowed in the early 1920s and ended in the 1960s. The railroad tracks were removed and converted to bike trails in the 1990s. |
