085 - Three Campers with Tent

085 - Three Campers with Tent | Photograph | Wisconsin Historical Society
Three campers, all wearing the camp uniform, sitting outdoors with small tent. One camper is kneeling in the tent, looking out at the camera. The other two campers are outside of the tent, sitting on the ground. One is sitting with a basket, the other with a backpack. The campsite is located in a grassy area, with the lake and far shoreline in the distance. Original caption notes: "A typical camping out scene. Notice the tents with mosquito tents inside, a promise of perfect sleep. A reflector oven always goes out on our trips. Properly placed opposite a reflector fire, it turns out large batches of golden corn bread, biscuits, shortcakes, and even delicious cake, later to be adorned with chocolate frosting. Campers practice at main camp, as part of the regular daily program, the special skills which are a part of the campers' kit. By canoe, boat, and horseback, in and around our own Lake and all over the surrounding country, we go out on these trips. This knowledge of the outdoor life, and the resulting appreciation of and at-home-ness in nature, are things which campers can always use and treasure, and never forget."
