The cover features a portrait of Washington flanked by a three-quarter view of Old City Hall, Wall Street, New York, in 1789, and the Capitol, Washington, D.C., in 1889, and a crest with the motto, "exitus acta probat" (the end justifies the means). The interior pages feature illustrations of Washington's sword, staff, camp goblet, camp chest and plates, bible, watch, and pistol, with leaf and scroll ornamentation. |
