The Madison chapter of the Disabled American Veterans presents a 50-star flag in honor of John Parrish, center, a member of the newly built Mt. Zion Church at 2021 Fisher Street. Parrish was a former commander and treasurer of the Madison D.A.V. chapter, a veteran of  World War II, and was active in Madison and state veterans organizations.  Displaying the flag are, left to right, R. J. Koelsch, past chapter commander; Charles Peckham, chapter commander; Parrish; the Rev. Joe Dawson, pastor of the church; and Richard Doll, senior vice commander. The other three men are wearing veterans hats.

Parrish worked for the US Armed Forces Institute and then Forest Products Laboratory, but he is best remembered in Madison for decades spent volunteering at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital., where he visited with patients.
