Carte-de-visite studio portrait of 1st Lieutenant Richard Cadell seated in a chair and wearing his military uniform. He holds a rifle in his right hand and a pistol across his chest in his left hand. He served in Company D, 11th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, and was killed in the Battle of Blakely, at Fort Blakeley, Alabama, on April 9th, 1865. At the time of his death, he was a 2nd Lieutenant. It was the last major ground battle of the Civil War, and took place after the surrender of General Robert E. Lee in Virginia. |
