Enlist in the Navy

Recruitment poster for the United States Navy. Depicts Uncle Sam in a soldier's uniform pointing a gun at the German Kaiser, who is dressed in a crown and robe and brandishing a whip. Uncle Sam is also lifting a cross from the back of a woman kneeling at his feet, and the beams of the cross are inscribed with "SLAVERY" and "BARBARISM." At the bottom of the poster is a reproduction of a handwritten note from Theodore Roosevelt, which reads, "Americans! Stand by Uncle Sam for liberty against tyranny!" |
