From the early 1920s through the 1940s the National Air Races were the premier aviation event, featuring stunt flying, parachute jumping, and air races. Until 1929 the events were held around the country, but in that year they were reorganized and, with two exceptions, thereafter held in Cleveland, Ohio. At the same time the format was redesigned to feature exciting low altitude, wing tip-to-wing tip flying around 50' pylons. |
