Thompson Tent Show
Photographic postcard of the Thompson Tent Show. A tent, a tall wagon and a truck that runs the generator are set up in a field or park with houses and trees in the background. One man stands in the center next to a sign that reads, "Buy Tickets Here. Admission 22-TAX 3, Children 10 Cents Under [????] Years Old, Under Five FREE." On the other side is a billboard, with a poster advertising the film "The Birth of A Race," on top and 25 still photos below. Painted on the side of the wagon is "Thompson Tent Show." The tall wagon probably housed the movie projector. Another man stands on the left holding a small dog. |

From "The Billboard," November 2, 1912. "Frank H. Thompson Moving Picture Show is in its ninth season and is doing a splendid business in Wisconsin. The roster of the show is as follows: Wm. H. Hannaman, engineer; Leo. A. Thompson, pianist, and Frank H. Thompson lecturer and manager." The silent film "Birth of a Race" was meant to discredit the negative stereotypes in "The Birth of a Nation." Unfortunately, due to production issues, the film failed to achieve its original goals. |
