Patriotic Holiday at Hillsboro School
Group portrait of class of young students holding American flags posed at the front of a classroom. Their teacher is standing on the far right, and desks are in the foreground. The students are wearing paper hats styled after those worn by soldiers in the Revolutionary War. The chalkboard in the background is decorated with hatchets, snowflakes, and a portrait of George Washington. A cloth with a pattern of Christmas stockings hangs above the chalkboard, and strings of popcorn hang from the ceiling. The holiday that the students are celebrating is not known, however, considering the Christmas decorations, it is likely that the students are commemorating Washington's crossing of the Delaware, which occurred from December 25 to December 26, 1776. |
