Vilas Zoo Monkeys Still at Large
"Two Rhesus monkeys are still at large after about four months of freedom. Thirty-three monkeys escaped from a Vilas Park zoo cage on August 4, 1960. Zoo director Don Watson, zoo keepers and Fireman Don Annen from Number 4 Company tried to catch the monkeys after dogs kept the monkeys at bay in trees near Baird and Fisher Streets. Zoo director Don Watson tried shooting a tranquilizer gun at the monkeys. One monkey was hit with the tranquilizer dart, but the monkey pulled out the dart and threw it back." |
