Nelson Cruikshank receives an award from Vice-President Hubert Humphrey for his work on Medicare. The photograph is inscribed by Hubert Humphrey: "To Nelson Cruikshank with admiration of your long, dedicated work for Medicare." Nelson Cruikshank worked for the American Federation of Labor (AFL) from 1944 to 1965 in various roles, such as director of social insurance and later as Director of the AFL's Social Security Department. During this period he was very politically active in gaining support for Medicare and for Social Security Disability Insurance. |
