Robert Ball Throwing a Baseball at Social Security Night

Robert Ball throws the ball out to the catcher before the opening pitch of a baseball game dedicated as Social Security Night at the Orioles old Baltimore stadium. Robert Ball, in a letter to the Wisconsin Historical Society, writes: "I am throwing this from the top deck from the stadium. The end of the throw was somewhat embarrassing. The escort who took me to the very top of the stadium said that I had to throw the ball straight out because there was an optical illusion involved and if I threw it right at the catcher the result would be that it would land in the lower stands short of the catcher. So, on the direction to throw it way out, I threw it over the catcher's head." |
