Lindbergh in Paris, "Spirit of St. Louis"

Charles Lindbergh in Paris, posed by the "Spirit of St. Louis," Ryan monoplane in which he flew solo across the Atlantic. Clearly visible is the plane's Curtiss Whirlwind engine. Although only faintly seen in the photograph, Lindbergh autographed the print for Leland Stowe, a journalist covering the story for the New York Herald Tribune. Stowe's collection is one of many collections about newspaper journalism available for research at the Wisconsin Historical Society Archives. |
