Land Survey Corners Marked

Land Survey Corners Marked | Photograph | Wisconsin Historical Society
The Madison Redevelopment Authority joined in the city's program of locating and permanently marking land survey corners in the Madison area. Here they mark three of them in the Triangle urban renewal area at West Washington Avenue at the Milwaukee Road tracks. Cornall Haakenson and Fred Streber, city engineering department crewmen, bore a hole in the pavement. Roger Rupnow, executive director of MRA, looks on with Ron Merrick and Jim Johnson, surveyors of Mead and Hunt engineering firm who placed the marker in the ground. The inset shows the marker about to be cemented into place. A 30-inch shaft anchors it with only the engraved face showing in the pavement. Other markers were set at Regent and Mills Streets and on Mills Street between Drake Street and Vilas Avenue.
