Rodney Williams, a World War I pilot from Delafield, Wisconsin, posed wearing his U.S. Air Service uniform. With five enemy aircraft downed in July 1918, Williams was the only Wisconsin aviator to qualify for the honorary military distinction of "Ace." |

After enlisting in 1917 Williams was assigned to fly with the British Royal Training Corps. One of his flight instructors in Canada and in Texas was the from famous British-born dancer Vernon Castle. In 1918 Williams joined the 17th Aero Squadron, a squadron of Americans that flew with the British SAY SOMETHING ABOUT THE UNIFROM?. |
