"In the Year of the Pig" | Poster | Wisconsin Historical Society
Poster advertising screenings of Emile de Antonio's 1969 documentary "In the Year of the Pig," as promoted by the Committee on Vietnam in New Zealand. The Committee on Vietnam was a group protesting New Zealand's involvement in the Vietnam War, and — according to a note by de Antonio on the back of the poster — "In the Year of the Pig" was made the official film of the committee. The anti-war protest movement in New Zealand began in the mid 1960s and ended in 1972, when New Zealand's troops were withdrawn from the war. Poster has a purple ink reproduction of a still from the movie, showing a young soldier whose helmet says "Make War Not Love." The title of the film appears in black text in the upper-left corner of the film. In the lower center of the image is a white box with black text, which has been designed to allow for local venues to list the details of their screenings. The text reads:
Widely hailed as the best full-length documentary on the war in Indochina, "In the Year of the Pig" is a film that you cannot afford to miss.
Day
