During the first months of U.S. participation in World War I John Kaminski served as a civilian instructor at Mineola, New York. In January, 1918 he enlisted with the expectation of being sent to France. Instead, he was assigned to the 7th Aero Squadron in Panama. Because of deteriorating vision, Kaminski was forced to leave the army and give up flying. |
